Michael L. Martin Jr.

Hi! My name is Michael. I spin in my office chair, ride shopping carts down the aisle, and tell lies for a living.

I’m an author of fantasy novels who believes magic should always be magical because it’s, well, magic. My tales combine fantastic monsters, magic and mystery with a dash of whimsy; and consist of characters who embark on dark journeys and fun adventures through wondrous worlds.

If you have any questions about me or my writing, or you just want to say hello, show my inbox some love and I’ll return the love right back.

Michael L. Martin Jr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States of America. As a child, he discovered a love for creating and showed an early gift for songwriting and storytelling. At six years old, he became the Runner Up of his third grade Dramatic Reading competition. His teacher informed his parents that his reading was excellent enough that he might have taken First Place had he looked up from the book and gazed into the audience at least once as he read “There’s a Dragon in My Wagon”. But he never liked being the center of attention and had always been shy.

Writing took a back seat to music throughout Michael’s school years. After graduating high school, he bypassed college and instead built up an extensive catalog of professional recordings and stage performances. In 2004, he co-founded the songwriting/production team Grinehouse and produced the official international remix for Ashlee Simpson’s single “Outta My Head” and Jay-Z’s remix/mash-up album “American Gangster Opera“. He parted ways with Grinehouse to pursue a career in writing in 2009.

Martin rediscovered writing in 2009 when he began building what is now the DARKER SIDE OF LIGHT saga. Michael describes how he came up with the idea: “The story came to me around 2001-ish, but I was focused on my music career at the time. My first thought about the story was that it was a great idea for someone else to write. But not me though. I’m busy.” He hadn’t even bothered to write any of the story down. But it stuck with him for next eight years until it compelled him to finally write it. First, he began drafting the seventh book in the series before going back to the complete the first book, BURN IN HADES, which was voted one of the Best Indie Books of 2012 by Kindle Book Reviews.

Carnival Cruise Lines

In 2013, Michael joined the Carnival Dream as an Entertainment Technician where he became well known as the unofficial third DJ on the ship. Under the moniker “DJ Mikey B’More” for the Punchliner Comedy Club Presented by George Lopez, Michael spun the newest hits and took requests from the audience. And as co-producer of the show, he played an integral role in designing the overall guest experience.
